Clare Wheeler

Over 12 years experience working in specialised support units in schools for autistic children aged 5-11 with communication differences.

I am a qualified yoga teacher and I have over 5 years experience as a specialised senior practitioner of Special Yoga.

Why do I teach autism and ADHD yoga?

I moved to training with the Special Yoga Foundation when my daughter, who has additional support needs, was having a difficult time. I could see the benefits that a short yoga practice had on her mood, sleep and energy levels.

Since then, I have studied for many years with Special Yoga. Their extensive knowledge on working with people with additional support needs has taught me so much about how to help my clients. First and foremost, it’s about building a calm, trusting bond where people know that they are seen and understood. From this point, we can work together to come to a place where individuals can feel more balanced in their own bodies.

There is no better moment than when a student realises that they are able to take on some of the practices themselves. Helping children and adults towards a more regulated state is a real privilege and I can see the positive effects this has on them, their families and support groups.
